Collecting can not only be fun, but you can use your collections to create unique and personalized spaces in your home. Collections artfully displayed can be great conversation starters, and it is fun to live with things that give you joy or bring back memories.

Here are a few suggestions beyond those in the article:

When choosing items to go into a cabinet, try pieces that have a theme. Here is an early 20th c. Chinese display piece with inset cloisonne medallions done in turquoise with pink and white flowers. I chose pieces from my Chinese porcelain collection that also had turquoise, white and pink decoration (including lots of famille rose), keeping in mind the shape of the spaces and the shape of the items. Where possible, I chose porcelain with lots of white background to help contrast against the dark wood in the cabinet. I topped it off with a cloisonne rooster which mimics the cloisonne in the medallions. I also put a colorful painting above it with the same color palette as the porcelain. Everything except the painting is Chinese.
